Was Godric Gryffindor Related to the Cornish Royal Family?
Harry Potter Gryffindor Banner
The banner shows the emblem of the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts bringing a touch of magic to the home of Harry Potter fans The banner is made of 100% Polyester 60 x 80 cm tall and comes with a suspension cord.
Origin of the Gryffindor Banner

The first bit Gryffin is related to the magical beast Griffin, which is a half lion and the House symbol, or crest, is a lion as well. The second bit, the dor, comes from the French d’or, which means made from gold and it shows that the house colours have gold
From that it can be seen that Godric honoured mostly courage, determination and pure of heart above all other traits. So having the lion as a house symbol comes as no surprise.
The Sorting Hat belonged to Godric it’s song
“You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart.”
adds to the sense of royalty, as does his sword.
According to Griphook the goblin, the Sword, made with huge rubies on the pommel, was forged by the goblin Ragnuk the First. It is indestructible. Neville used it to decapitate Nagini, Voldemort’s snake. Rowling has confirmed Gryffindor did not steal the sword from Ragnuk and that this belief is merely part of Griphook’s goblin mistrust and prejudice against wizards.
It is possible, due to his personal colours and the appearance of a Lion Rampant on his personal crest that Gryffindor is related to the Cornish royal family, later rulers of the Duchy of Cornwall, whose crest is very similar with (Argent, a lion rampant guiles, a border azure equidistant fifteen estoils.)
There are of course several versions of the banner redesigned as the years and Headmasters go by.
