Triphala – Amalaki, Bibhitaki, Haritaki
No sooner have finished our article at Page 268 on Henna than we hear from USA-WHOLESALE-AND-RETAIL-DEALS with permission to look thru their Three Thousand odd Product Line.
This has to be a joke right? How on earth can we look at 3,000 items spread over five sites. We can’t can we? Added to the bottom of their email is the casual note.“We also carry 100s of other herbs that are not listed. They should be coming soon on the sites.”
Joe and Ash first set up their eBay Site in 2007 and due to 24hour days plus overtime selling Ayurveda & Herbal Products were soon forced to make more room by increasing the size of the store and opening more websites. From the beginning it’s been expansion expansion expansion. Until today Joe tells me that they carry 100s of other herbs that are not yet shown on the sites.
Living in Valley Stream New York the sites leave them with little time to spend with their family or for going out for dinner.
I did ask Joe if he had a favorite product. He found this difficult having been born into a family where grandfather and father are herbalists and practice Ancient Indian medicine of Herbs and Natural alternate treatments. In the end he chose Henna or Indigo powder.
Joe was insistent that if you do not find the product you are looking for in his store let them know chances are they have it and it is not listed online, or, they may be able to get it for you.
Another piece of advice and I quote from Joe – Some times you are lucky and get the correct products the first time. However, with any natural or herbal products your body, skin, or hair may like one product overwhelmingly and may reject an other. This is true with any medication or beauty product. A product that suits one may not necessarily may suit another. If you don’t like one thing find another product that may suit you.”
With a Product Line then best counted as something South of 4,000 items. I chose Triphala to start off with.
Triphala from Hindi/Sanskrit a loose translation would be “Three Fruits” and these fruits would be:-
Amalaki (Emblica officinalis),
Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and
Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
Triphala – has a strong reputation for helping with:-
The improvement of digestion
The relief of constipation
Gastrointestinal tract cleansing
Relief of gas
The treatment of diabetes
The treatment of eye disease
Test-tube studies have suggested that triphala offers antioxidant, bacteria-killing, and immune-enhancing benefits. And in animal-based research, scientists have shown that the herbal blend may help keep cholesterol in check. Vital in this day and age.
In other studies on animals, triphala has demonstrated anti-cancer effects. A report published in 2008, found that feeding triphala to mice helped suppress the growth of pancreatic cancer cells. It’s important to remember that animal studies often do not prove equally effective in humans.
Ayurvedic practitioners are convinced of its effectiveness in treating these complaints although western medical practitioners are not as certain.
